WHAT’S IN MY DIAPER CADDY // The ultimate list of essentials!

Having a newborn, I was quickly won over by the idea of having a diaper caddy. My daughter’s room is upstairs and we spend most of our time on the first floor so, even before I gave birth, I knew I wanted to install a diaper changing station in the common area. No way I’m going upstairs every time I have a diaper to change – and we know how often that happens haha!

Over time, I really adjusted the contents of it to make it as practical as possible. Let’s jump in!

But first, what is a diaper caddy?

It’s a basket that holds all your baby’s diaper-changing essentials. It also includes all the hygiene products you use on a daily basis, so you can have them on hand quickly. It’s a basket we usually keep in the living room or in our bedroom for those late-night co-sleeping awakenings.

And where can you find a diaper caddy?

For my Canadian girlies, you can find many cute diaper caddies on Amazon Canada! Here are some of them :

So now, what do you put in it?

First of all, you’ll obviously need diapers. And I don’t know about you but here, we are team Pampers.

Next, something else that’s obvious, but you’ll need wipes. And Huggies Natural Care are my favorite.

Another must: diaper rash cream.

What would a diaper caddy be without a changing pad? These are waterproof and you can fold them.

Another absolutely essential item is a pacifier. We always need one close at hand, whether to soothe baby or for a little nap in the living room.

Fridaybaby’s Snotsucker nasal aspirator is a nasal hygiene essential to put in your caddy. I know it sounds disgusting, but it comes with filters to prevent unwanted fluids from getting into your mouth.

Another essential for nasal hygiene. I prefer these hydraSense single-use vials to the nasal spray (and so does my daughter) that I use with these nasal irrigators.

You should always have washcloths in your caddy, whether for burping, drinking or after meals.

I was surprised to see how fast my daughter’s nails grow! So it’s best to always have a nail clipper nearby. If you have a newborn, I would suggest using an electric nail file!

I also always keep my thermometer close by, in case I need it.

The next logical step is to include a tube of tylenol.

Boogie wipes can be really useful if you don’t have to use the nasal aspirator and just have a little something to fetch from the nose. These wipes are made with natural saline to help liquefy secretions.

Another useful type of wipe to have are cleaning wipes for pacifiers that fall on the floor. It’s also even better on-the-go!

It’s always a a good idea to have a swaddle blanket nearby.

If you’re in a hurry and don’t have a sink handy, have a bottle of hand sanitizer in your diaper caddy.

I always leave a teething toy in my caddy, it’s always handy!

Since the diaper pail is in my daughter’s nursery, I like to keep these little disposable bags to avoid unpleasant odors.

If you’re breastfeeding, it’s a good idea to keep nursing pads and nipple cream in the caddy.

Voilà! With all these items, you’ve got the perfect diaper caddy and all the essentials you need to take good care of baby.

Now that you’ve assembled your diaper caddy, HERE is the ultimate list of must haves to pack in your hospital bag and HERE is the must haves for a perfect changing station!
